Asha for Education is a non-profit organization dedicated to catalyzing socio-economic change in India, through the use of education. We send thousands of dollars annually to India to provide basic education to underprivileged children in India.
Asha for Education was founded at UC Berkeley in 1991 by three graduate students. Since then, Asha for Education has spread globally to include about 45 chapters in the US, and 66 worldwide. Asha is an entirely volunteer driven organization with very little overhead. 100% of donations made to Asha go directly to our projects in India.
At Asha Berkeley, we are currently supporting six different projects. Our projects target the often most neglected aspects of Indian society, from children of sex workers in Mumbai to children of farmers and laborers to disabled children. There are always opportunities for new projects to be presented to the chapter, and anyone is able to steward a project if they want to do so.
